We are really sad that we are not able to greet you in the usual way through visits to your primary schools and lots of fun on-site activities to keep you busy through the summer term, but on this webpage you will find all of the information that you will need to help make your transition as easy as possible.
We sent welcome letters to all families who have been offered a place with us on March 1st, so we hope you received these.
(If you would like a place in our new Year 7 cohort and have not received a welcome letter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and number and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.)
While the present government advice around social distancing and self-isolation exist it means that our usual induction and transition will have to be different this year. We will, however, do everything we can to get you and your child ready to start with us this September.
Here are some of the many ways in which we will support your child with their transition to secondary school in March:
- We will be holding a New Parent Information Event on Thursday 6th May at 5:30pm live on Teams, where you can hear directly from our Principal and other key staff about what we can offer your child and ask any questions that you may have.
- Taster lessons are available on our website here so that your child can sample life in the Year 7 classroom and take part in some fun and engaging activities across the curriculum.
- All families will receive a welcome phone call from a member of our staff team before Easter to gather more information from the person who knows your child best – you – about how we can best support your child academically and pastorally in preparation for September.
In addition, in recognition of how challenging the last year has been for many families, we are also providing every child who joins our Year 7 cohort in September with a FREE blazer, school bag and chromebook to ensure that they are ready for learning.
We can promise you that we will be providing even more exciting transition events in the summer term and a comprehensive induction programme in September that takes into consideration the needs of every child to support a smooth transition as a member of our BDA family.
In the meantime, you can familiarise yourself with Ark Burlington Danes by watching the following welcome video, put together by our Principal, to welcome you as our newest members of the BDA family:
We also encourage you and your families to read the attached Parent Handbook to give you more information about the history, vision, values and expectations here at Ark Burlington Danes Academy. This handbook will be updated as the term goes on with more information about the following:
- The structure of the Academy Day
- The tutor system
- Important term dates for your diary
- Our Home/School Agreement
We will let you know via email when these updates go live to share our full 2021-202 handbook and when more information becomes available about our plans for face-to-face induction if such a thing becomes possible (and we really hope that it will!).
You might also like to take a look at our Who's Who Guide to get to know lots of the wonderful teachers and other members of staff who work here at Ark Burlington Danes Academy.
We partner with Khalsa Schoolwear to provide your child with a high quality uniform that will survive the trials and tribulations of secondary school days. You can find their online uniform shop here: https://khalsaschoolwear.co.uk/school/burlington-danes-secondary-academy/
In recognition of the challenges this year has brought to many families, we are proud to be able to offer all new Year 7 students a free blazer and free schoolbag along with a free chromebook to welcome them to our BDA family.
The school will also be hosting two socially-distanced school uniform pop up shops on Tuesday 7th July and Wednesday 8th July between 2:30pm and 6:30pm. At this uniform shop you will also be able to meet some key members of staff and receive some BDA goodies, ready for September.
We also really want to hear from you! Even though lockdown is keeping us apart right now, we would love to receive a short video from you telling us about who you are, what you like and what you are most looking forward to (and maybe even what you are a little bit worried about) about coming to secondary school!
Please send us your videos at email@example.com so we can start to get to know you, just like you are getting to know us!
If you have any further questions about anything at all, please do not hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, remembering to include your child’s name and a return telephone number and someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
