Striving for excellence

Every pupil matters.  Every lesson counts. We are the beginning of lifelong learning. Every teacher is committed to our ‘no excuses’ approach: no matter your background, circumstances or ability you will succeed. Expectations are high and we will not give up on any child.   Staff work hard. The teaching in both the primary and the secondary phase is inspirational.

Ark Burlington Danes Academy proves that great schools can do more than achieve excellent grades; they build and enrich both individual lives and the local community.

We are both a ‘comprehensive grammar’ all-through school and a Christian community, backed by Ark. We aim to prepare our pupils for university and a career of their choice.

Training opportunities

Burlington Danes Academy has a strong partnership with the Institute of Education and Goldsmiths, helping to develop cohorts of student teachers throughout the year. A number of them go on to develop successful careers at the academy.  Our commitment to ITT extends to prospective teachers from the local community, and some ex-pupils who visit the school to observe lessons before undertaking their own courses. Many of these ex-pupils take on learning support roles at the academy before taking the next step on their teaching career path. As an academy, we also feel that the experience of working with trainees helps our staff reflect and improve on their own practice in the classroom.

We hold a long and successful partnership with TeachFirst, with five new participants having joined the school in 2015, five in 2016 and four in 2017. We look forward to welcoming many more in the years to come. These participants have joined the academy in almost every department from music and MFL to English, maths and humanities. Many of these participants have gone on to leadership roles within the academy.

The school has a strong and well-established programme for inducting NQTs, including an orientation process at the end of the summer term and additional inset day in September. Strong departmental support, regular coaching meetings and training sessions, a team of experienced mentors, a full programme of observations and feedback are all key features of our commitment to supporting trainee teachers.  Wherever possible, NQTs are employed at the academy from July, allowing NQTs a period of induction into their department and academy life.

Be part of a network

Joining our school means becoming part of a network of education experts who are all united by the same purpose - a commitment to making a difference where it matters most. You will have the opportunity to come together with your peers locally, nationally and sometimes even internationally, to share resources, learning and good practice.  You'll also be supported to focus on what you do best. We are always looking for ways to take away additional pressures, to give you more freedom to concentrate on improving education outcomes for young people. We offer support beyond the classroom; from prioritising strong behaviour management strategies to giving you access to our award-winning data management platform.

Have an impact far beyond your own school
