Brilliant Club Visit University of Sussex

Just before half term, BDA’s Brilliant Club visited the University of Sussex for a day of thinking about their future prospects, and to experience a graduation ceremony – celebrating the excellent academic essays they recently produced.

The students involved had coaching from a PHD tutor last term and were set the task of carrying out their own research on the topic of moral ethics. They submitted essays to a strict undergraduate-style deadline and had them graded to a university mark scheme.

The finished pieces of work were excellent, impressing the tutor with their mature presentation of ideas and the depth of knowledge on show. Special mention must be made of Faiso, Hajar, Milly and Yasmin, who all achieved 1sts.

During their visit to Sussex, the students learnt a lot about life at a campus university and discussed various study skills and A level ‘facilitating’ subjects. They also talked about their future options and the challenges offered up by the Brilliant Club. They were particularly impressed by the size of the library and how many students were hard at work inside.

Ms Grainger said: “All the students were as ‘brilliant’ as expected.”
