year 10 students aim for the top
On Monday, nine members of Year 10 enjoyed a day out at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University. The day included, a quiz about university life; a delicious lunch; a tour and Q+A with 'Cambassadors'; an inter-school debate (we drew 1-1) and finally an academic lecture. The debate was a popular part of the day and both teams were commended on their excellent active listening skills and the winning team took the prize for their innovative thinking and ideas in response to the motion.
Loujane said, "The experience was an eye-opener to the reality of Cambridge University - suddenly it seems within reach." Mr Moore noticed how meeting the Cambridge students and being in the college all day humanised the prospect of going to a top university.
Laureen described how the college was a "friendly environment", Jason added a description of the day which included both surprise and challenge.
Fayez kept our feet on the ground - "it was great to see the second best university in the world". Evidently Miss Grainger needs to get planning their next trip to see No. 1 - Massachusetts University! Well done Year 10; as ever, you were a credit to BDA.
