Our Year 13 students are celebrating achieving places at universities or vocational placements following a year affected by the Coronavirus.

As a result of the pandemic, students from Ark Burlington Danes Academy were not able to take examinations in the usual way. Instead, they received grades based on assessment from Ofqual, the national examinations regulator.

The school is part of Ark, one of the country’s top-performing academy networks.

Despite a turbulent year, Ark Burlington Danes is celebrating as our students scored top marks:

Ali A, who got A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths and Physics is set to take up a place studying Engineering at Jesus College, Oxford.

He has competed in annual UK Mathematics Trust competitions, winning awards in each independent challenge and achieving a respectable place in each regional and national group challenge, even winning a group competition.  Since joining BDA in year 12, Ali has consistently made the most of the opportunities made available to him. His attendance at university summer schools, supported by his teachers, opened his eyes to the realities of university study. Ali said: "BDA has been amazing - I don’t think I could've done it without my teachers".

Another student, Sadek A, who got A A A in Biology, Chemistry and Maths is set up to take a place studying Medicine at Queen Mary, University of London.

Having moved to London from the Netherlands at a young age, Sadek has demonstrated the intellect, dedication and care for others that you would look for in a future doctor. He has supplemented his studies with an incredible range of volunteering placements, including in pharmacies, a care home, and in a hospital in Iraq, where his parents are originally from.

On receiving his results, Sadek said: “I'm so proud of what I've achieved and the help I've received from my school”

Omiyma E, from Ladbroke Grove finished her L3 BTEC in Business and achieved D*D*D and is heading to City, University of London to study Law.

Omiyma is a hugely diligent student, who has participated in numerous workshops with international companies since returning to Ark Burlington Danes for sixth form. More widely, she has mentored younger students through her volunteer work as a reading buddy.  On receiving her results, today, Omiyma said: “Keep going - the hard work will all be worth it".

Suhayb Y, from White City, got A A B in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is taking up a place at King's College London to study Computer Science.

Suhayb has been an active member of the school community in his time here, taking an active role in jiu jitsu club and the school football team, as well as supporting younger students in their study of maths. His achievements are all the more impressive given that he joined the Further Maths course partway through, and his excellent grade is testament to both his intellect and hard work.

Ark Burlington Danes Academy’s principal Paul Bhatia said: “I am delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students on our A level results day. Our children have worked incredibly hard over the course of the year and while this has been an unusual year, I am overjoyed to see one in three of them secure places at the most competitive institutions in the country, including Oxford, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Durham and Bristol. It’s been wonderful to see our children grow in their time at BDA, from Year 7 into bright young adults, and we wish them the very best for the next stage of their educational journey.”
