KS5 Ark Debate
Thursday 04 March 2021
On Wednesday 3rd March, Ark Burlington Danes hosted a fantastic KS5 Ark Network Debate, based on Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire.
Students from 6 of Ark's Sixth Forms took to their virtual podiums via MS Teams and wowed the teaching staff and organisers with their knowledge of the text, convincing arguments and fantastic interactions with students from across the network.
One participant, Duaa, used the event to reflect on her love of studying English; "I loved hearing everyone’s different perspectives and they were argued so confidently and eloquently. This is one of the reasons why I love English so much. I also loved how supportive the whole group was, we were are cheering each other on, never having met each other. I had so much fun and would love to do this again!"
Noor, another Year 13 student who is planning on studying Law at university, was similarly engaged by the event: "I really enjoyed it very much and found it fun and the concept of it being like a courtroom and the jury but also useful for our revision. It was great hearing other schools and students take part and talk about what they thought, really helps us form arguments and also learn from others. Everyone one was nice and confident speaking about what they believed and was interesting hearing about other people’s opinions.
BDA's Deputy Head of English, Ms Rai, who also hosted the event, called the students' bravery, courage and interaction "astounding".
We are looking forward to taking part in and hosting many more!
