Secondary School Entrance Changes
From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.
All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.
The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.
History Battlefields Trip
Ms McCartney: To commemorate the centenary year of The Great War (1914-1918) the history department took 35 year 9 students to Flanders battlefields on Wednesday. We visited the largest empire cemetery and memorial, Tyne Cot, and reflected on the human costs of WWI.
Several members of the public, including military servicemen, spoke to our tour guide and commented on the respectful conduct of the group.
Other significant attractions were the German Trenches of Bayenwald and Jason (9U) experienced the discomfort of full military garb and the weight of weapons, as he demonstrated what the troops would have worn.
Students took part in the Menin Gate ceremony and six of them laid poppy reefs and wrote words of remembrance, this was led by Adonis (9D) and Nicholas (9L).
Despite an early start and late finish the students were fantastic. We had a memorable day and shared some inspiring memories. Many thanks to Miss Nash and Mr Fenn for their time and efforts on the day.
