Secondary School Entrance Changes

From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.

All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.

The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.

New Principal Appointed for September

We are extremely pleased to announce that Mr Ribton has been appointed to take over from Dame Sally Coates as principal of Burlington Danes Academy.

Mr Ribton, currently senior vice principal, will take the reins on an interim basis from September, with Dame Sally starting her new role at academy chain United Learning the same month.

Mr Ribton said: “I am so thrilled and proud to lead BDA from September. I  am extremely confident in our teachers and pupils and we shall continue to improve the academy. Our plan is to be not just outstanding but exceptional.”

Mr Ribton arrived with Dame Sally at BDA six years ago, just as the then struggling school became the first ARK academy. The partnership has since overseen a dramatic turnaround, with Ofsted awarding us outstanding in all four assessment categories in November 2013.

Dame Sally said: “I will be extremely pleased to pass Burlington Danes into Michael’s safe hands. He has been pivotal to our success and I know the school will continue to do well under his leadership and direction. I offer him my congratulations.”

Lord Stanley Fink, chair of governors, said: “We are delighted to announce that Mr Ribton, who is currently the senior vice principal at Burlington Danes Academy, has been appointed as acting principal, starting the job formally in September.

“Mr Ribton has thirty years experience of working in inner city schools, including fourteen years in a senior leadership role. Before joining Burlington Danes, he was the deputy head at Holland Park School.”
