Secondary School Entrance Changes

From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.

All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.

The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.

BDA Raise the Bar for Sport Relief

The spirit of Sport Relief has been pulsing through the walls at Burlington Danes Academy this week, with staff and students taking part in fundraising activities at any given opportunity.

Monday lunchtime played host to a student-only badminton tournament, which saw competitors pulling out all the stops in pursuit of the coveted title. Well done to Thomas Moran, who managed to fend off the formidable talent of Yassmine Al-Amire to claim the crown.

On Tuesday lunchtime a series of row-offs were held in the playground, challenging students to cover as many metres as possible in two minutes. Well done to Shakira (463m), Reece (469m), Adam (516m) and Redwan (529m) for delivering such impressive performances. Special mention must also be made of Mr Goorah, who managed an astonishing 633m.

Also on Tuesday BDA’s basketball aficionados made for the Sports Hall for what proved to be a very close shoot-out. Well done to winners Milos Vukasinovic and Yahye Saed.

Wednesday saw staff and students join forces for a mixed touch rugby tournament, for which players were split into teams representing the countries of the Six Nations. See Mr Thornton’s report in our full online newsletter for more details.

The astroturf on Thursday was the scene of the first half of the KS3 Football World Cup – with students representing Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Holland, Germany and Portugal – which will conclude today. Check next week’s newsletter for details.

Also on Thursday staff and students turned out in force for a mixed netball tournament. Despite a strong performance from Ms Butts’s Red team, the winners were the Gold team, captained by Ms Cartlidge and comprising Ms C. Morris, Sumei, Riannah, Mimi, Yassmine and Rikki.

Well done also to everyone who paid a pound for the right to wear trainers today – you have so far raised £116.44.

The enthusiasm with which the BDA community has gone about raising money for Sport Relief has been great to see. Thanks to everyone who has taken part and donated – it’s been a fantastic week for charity!
