BDA Ofsted Report

The full Ofsted report, providing comprehensive detail of the effectiveness of Burlington Danes Academy in each of the four categories, can be viewed here. But in the interest of convenience, we have picked out a few key aspects to be considered.

With 38 percent of all the lessons assessed by inspectors graded outstanding, the section of the document concerned with quality of teaching makes for a particularly satisfying read.

It states: “Teachers make learning enjoyable by providing imaginative, structured and challenging activities that enable students to make outstanding progress. Teachers ask open-ended questions that create an inclusive climate for learning.”

“Good subject knowledge and planning, combined with their high expectations, make an outstanding contribution to students’ progress and ensure students learn effectively.”

It also gives us great pleasure to acknowledge the positive comments made by students about teaching practice: “Feedback about their learning is overwhelmingly positive as seen in comments such as ‘Learning is brilliant at this school (Year 8),’ and ‘Teachers really support us to meet our ambitious targets (Year 11),’ and ‘We are given so many opportunities to really prepare us for the best universities (Year 13).’”

With regard to the achievement of pupils, the report says: “Their attainment by the time they reach Year 11 is significantly above the national average, especially in mathematics and English… The academy’s robust internal data for this year shows that students are continuing to make rapid progress and are attaining even higher levels.”

As previously stated, achieving this coveted status has been a wonderful experience. We are so proud of the exceptional success of BDA students and we will continue to strive to raise our standards. There is always room for improvement.
