Secondary School Entrance Changes
From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.
All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.
The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.
BDA Open Events
We are pleased to say that this year’s open events have been a great success and would like to thank all those who attended, especially the students who helped out after school hours.
Last week’s main school Open Evening saw staff open their classrooms to prospective parents and show off a little of what their subjects have to offer; as ever, the Science Department pulled out all the stops and put on an impressive exhibition of experiments and demonstrations involving all sorts of mind-blowing phenomena. Even Mr Fairbairn found time to partake in some controlled flame throwing.
The attending families particularly enjoyed the wonderful selection of cakes, made by Ms Ford and her Year 7 team, while waiting to embark on their tours of the academy. They also heaped praise on the Year 11 prefects and Year 12 student leaders, describing them as “a delight to spend time with” and “very obviously proud of their school”.
Special mention must also be made of Jadon and Elizabeth, whose excellent speeches were received with due praise and acclaim. Having spent an evening at Burlington Danes, it would appear that parents are more committed than ever to securing a place in Year 7 for their child.
While Open Mornings ran all this week, offering those parents unable to attend last Thursday’s event a chance to visit the school, it was BDA Sixth Form’s turn to take the limelight yesterday evening.
With the Dennis Potter doors thrown wide open to the public, an impressive variety of subject stalls were abuzz with excited questions and discussion between prospective sixth formers, staff and our current crop of Year 12s and 13s. It was great to see students so eager to know what it’s like to be a part of BDA Sixth Form.
We hope you found out all that you wanted to know about the subjects on offer and that you managed to pick up one of our new prospectuses. Don’t forget that applications must be submitted by December 19th to secure your interview and a conditional offer.
