Secondary School Entrance Changes
From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.
All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.
The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.
Oxbridge Project: Our world V social media
Oxbridge Project students have been researching two key issues that have cropped up in the media this week.
Firstly, they looked at an article explaining how important social media is in the world today. They discussed whether or not we could live without a smartphone and debated some of the difficulties that such a loss might bring.
Next, the group read about a recent news story that has caused considerable controversy. It has been reported that the organisation behind the feminist campaign ‘This is what a feminist looks like’ unwittingly used a sweatshop in Mauritius to produce their £45 t-shirts – which celebrities have been wearing as a gesture of support for women’s issues.
Students discussed the benefits of the campaign but ultimately decided that the organisation’s ethics were not strong enough.
The group is looking forward to next week’s talk about maths and philosophy.
