Secondary School Entrance Changes
From Monday 14th January our entrance on Wood Lane will be open to students only until 8:55am. Students will also leave via this entrance as usual at the end of the school day. Any students arriving after 8.55am will have to enter via the Du Cane Road entrance and register at the all-through reception, which is located in the Primary. They will then be escorted to their lessons.
All visitors, parents and guests will arrive and leave via the Du Cane Raod entrance, at all times and also check in to the all-through reception.
The all-through reception is reached by following the pavement around to the left and entering the primary building.
Burlington Berties Reunion
The Burlington Berties – ex pupils of Burlington Girls’ School – held a reunion lunch at the academy last week. Fifty women who had attended the school in the 50s and 60s had lunch in The Strand restaurant and were waited on by our excellent Student Leaders.
Mr Ribton gave a speech on the progress of BDA since last year and Dame Sally Coates, the guest of honour, was presented with a bench to acknowledge her work at the school. This will be placed near the pond at reception.
Memories of draughty classrooms and the new-fangled ‘green’ blackboards (a major revelation in the 40s) came flooding back as the Berties toured the school.
“This must have been a great school for you all to be so proud of once being taught here,’ said Mr Ribton. “I am thrilled to say that whilst we continue to improve and look forward, I can confidently say that we are an outstanding school once again.”
